Keep the answer smaller than the thinking.
“There is no need to rush to the right answer. Move the fish. Count again. Change your mind. Try another way.”
A simple question like “How did you figure that out?” can be more valuable than getting the answer right the first time. Let your child show an idea with the fish, explain it in their own words, and try another path when they want to.
